(...) of many of the unhappy people in the valley who were drowned instantly in the houses from which they had not the slightest chance of escape. About 5 o'clock this morning bodies of men might be seen with lanterns seeking out the bodies of the dead in the ruins. Up to this hour no idea can be formed of the loss of Life.
