Notes:

Information from John A Thickitt The O4 class were heavy-goods enginesand, designed during the Edwardian era. Over the years most of them were modernized to a greater or lesser extent (which also changed their appearance). This engine was converted into an O4/8, a standard of modification receiving the most radical improvements. The vehicle being propelled by the engine was known as a Brake Van (AKA Guardands Van). No. 62882 was still active in the Sheffield area as late as October 1964, then being based at Langwith (Derbys). The photograph will have been taken post-1948 (i.e. after railway nationalization) because the engine carries a British Railways number.
