Meersbrook House stands in Meersbrook Park which was originally the grounds of the house.It was built in 1780 by Benjamin Roebuck, a private Sheffield banker. It later became the home of the Shores, who also owned Norton Hall.In 1850, both estates were sold by auction after the Shores Church Street bank financially crashed. In 1890 the house was opened as the Ruskin Museum, which was formerly at Walkley.It continued to be a museum until 1953, at which time the collection was transferred to City Museum, Library and Art Gallery. It is now owned by Sheffield Council.
