No 5, was of interest during the trade outrages of 50 years ago as being in the occupation of Broadhead, the leader. It is also believed to have been the original of the inn mentioned in Charles Beale's novel, 'Put Yourself in His Place'. In 1841, it was the property of Israel King Wm. Lazarus. 1852, Wm. Lister, Victualler. 1860, J. Rowbotham, Victualler. It was in its later days, occupied by Pendleton and Merril, electro-platers and guilders. (1883 Directory). |
