Procession outside the Grouse Inn, Sheffield Road, Dronfield
Dronfield

A c.1904 photograph of the Nelson family, who lived at the Inn from at least 1901 until 1912. This was their entry to the yearly September Cycle Parade & Gala, which raised money for Charity.

The family included William & wife Mary Elizabeth, two sons Lewis & Hedley, and six daughters Beatrice, Marion, Ada, Mabel, Florrie & Phyllis. Mary was well known locally for her talent in dressmaking, often winning prizes.

The Inn stood on Sheffield Road, just down from the junction of Snape Hill, about where the retaining wall and bankside are now. It was demolished in the 1930s for road widening.
