Information taken from City Engineer and Surveyor's Office; Stag Hotel- Tenanted House, Densely populated on bus stop, only pub for 2 miles.Next licensed house, Prince of Wales. Middle Class residential area- lay by for cars.Old fashioned front but nice inside with outside toilets.Four pumps, nice bar- lights on all day (dark).Small rear lounge.Front, smoke room and taps.Garage and small shop to let.Large garden with tables and chairs, half an acre.100 barrels per annum. A low two-bayed front, with two rooms above, two-storey outshot containing rooms for licensee. Threee public rooms and open bar. Yard with outhouses and remains of stables. Before 1800, there was a decayed ale-house across the top of what is now Cemetery Road, practically in the garden of Sharrow Head House, owned by the Rev. Alex. Mackenzie, Vicar of St. Paul's. He had the old inn pulled down and built The Stag to replace it. It was then in a good position on the turnpike road, just at the top of the pull up Sharrow Lane.
