Information from George Oxley. The young boy seated on the front row is Roy Gill and will be 93 in January 2013. He tells me that the photograph would have been taken in 1934, which was the year he started work. Roy worked as a moulder in the foundry all his working life. The iron foundry specialised in making ingot moulds up to maximum 20 tons cast weight and also general engineering castings like furnace doors and general castings mostly for the steel making industry. The firm was established in 1860 although there are records of a lot earlier than that under the name of Schofield, Oxley and Co in 1825 which was a branch of the family. At some time Oxley Brothers was located at Union Foundry, Furnace Hill. Located to Vulcan Foundry in the very early 1900's and by then was called George Oxley and Sons and incorporated as a limited company in 1914.
