Officially opened by Rolf Harris, Saturday 11th November 1972. At the close of the ceremony, Rolf Harris painted one of his now famous murals which he presented to the City of Sheffield as a memento of the occasion. The vivid landscape in orange and black was on permanant display in the Main Pool Hall . When the baths closed in January 1991 (as part of the redevelopment for the World Student Games), Paul Fletcher the managing director of Fletchers Bakery, whose daughter Nicola was a British Junior breaststroke champion and Olympic triallist bought the mural and displayed it on the wall of the new burger bun plant off Claywheels Lane.
