The visit took place 8-13 July 1938 and was organised by the Sheffield Branch of the British War Graves Association, and the Sheffield Joint Council of Ex-Service Associations. It included a special memorial service at Serre Memorial Park on Sunday 10 July 1938 (aided by Puisieux Musical Society) in memory of members of Sheffield City Battalion who lost their lives nearby on 1 July 1916.
