The Adelphi Hotel - The Crucible Theatre is built on the site formerly occupied by the Adelphi Hotel, which closed in May 1969.

At meetings held in the hotel, three celebrated sporting institutions were founded.

30 January 1854 Bramall Lane Cricket Ground (later to become the Home of Sheffield United Football Club).

8 January 1863 Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
