Secretary of the File Cutters and Forger's Union and Secretary of the Sheffield Trades Council. Worked for John Brown and Co. Ltd. Although a Liberal Party councillor he was appointed a Justice of the Peace by the Conservative Party in 1897.
Resided at Pitsmoor Road.
