Lynwood Literary Club was founded in 1884 when 'eight gentleman met at Mr Terry's, 'Lynwood'' [26 Collegiate Crescent] to form a literary club to meet through the winter months.  Its objective was the advancement of its members in literary, scientific, social and general knowledge.  The first ordinary meeting took place in October 1884 at Lynwood.

President: W. J. Waterman.

Honorary Secretary: J. Henderson.

Committee members: D. Flather, J. E. Breakey, W. T. Tasker, E. Bramley, and J.P. Collier.
