Grinding A carborundum stone is used for grinding, the usual size being 42 [inches] dia. and 7 [inches] wide.. The materials in this manufactured stone are bonded together in a special way so that there is considerably less possibility of breakage than was the case when natural sandstone was used. Each stone is tested at a speed of 6,000 feet per minute (approx. 545 revs.) whilst its normal working speed never exceeds 5,000 feet per minute (approx. 415 revs.). It sis important that the stone should not be allowed to stand overnight. This is to avoid it becoming soaked in one place which would give it a 'heavy' side and cause it to run uneven. |
