Chasing This is the art of creating decorative design by raising the surface of the metal, a very highly skilled trade. The arrticle to be chased is placed 'face' downwards, on to a vegetable pitch 'bed' and the required design is roughly knocked into the metal by the chaser, who uses a number of smooth headed tools and a hammer. The item being chased is then reversed on the 'bed' and the design sharpened up and completed. |
