Burnishing The burnisher pushes or rubs the 'high' spots of an electrically deposited sterling silver surface into the 'low' spots, thus giving a perfectly smooth surface without loss of material. This result is obtained by the use of smooth ended steel rubbing tools and stones, soap suds serving as a lubricant. Polishing by hand is the final process in the long series of operations which are necessary to produce first class Sterling Silver and silver plate ware. |
