George Wostenholm was the son of a Sheffield cutler who followed his father into the family business.He bought the Washington Works in Wellington Street, extended them and made huge profit. He began to buy land off Cherry Tree Lane in 1836, and by 1849 the architectural firm of Flockton and Son had built him a splendid house which he called Kenwood.It stood in a large park which was laid out by Robert Marnock, the landscape gardener who designed the Botanical Gardens. |
