This was the first building commenced in the district, indeed it is said to have been the first building commenced under the Education Act, 1870. It is situated in Sanderson Street, in the Ecclesiastical District of Brightside, upon freehold land purchased from H. Wilson, Esq., the nett area of which 1s. 1809 square yards. The superficial areas of school rooms and class rooms amount to 6217 square feet, and the cubical contents or breathing space to 94, 529 cubic feet, and the number of scholars accommodated is 600. This school was opened in January 27th, 1873. The contract for the building was the extras amounted to 2s. 11d., and the cost of site 2s. 11d., exclusive of furniture and some fittings.
