Information from various Newspaper Cuttings: Hawker in laces, garters, brushes and 'Owd Moores Almanac often seen in Pinstone Street around 1880's crying: Long leather laces a penny a pair The more you grease 'em the better they'll wear The more you pull 'em the sooner they'll tear Long leather laces a penny a pair. Never allowed a child to cross the road without assistance and would lift them up and carry them across with the words Upsey Daisy Only 5 feet tall shaved his upper lip and grew his beard. His head was so large he had to have the largest hat size possible 7 5/8ths put pins protruding from the top to stop people tapping on his head and collapsing the crown. The only Herbert Moss who appears in the Census is 1851 aged 4 with grandparents Moss at Court 3 Upper Allen Street 1861 aged 14 with maternal grandparents at 13 Cumberland Street 1871 aged 24 a news vendor lodging with Ernest Mannuella and family 1881 aged 33 lodging at Scotland Street with Hannah Eaton 63 who kept a mangle and Ann Barker aged 73 Herbert Moss aged 42 died June quarter of 1890 but no records of his death in the paper However information with another photograph of Upsey Daisy is dated 1904.
