Built for Mark Firth in the 1860s; Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) stayed here in 1875 on a Royal Visit to open Firth Park. After Mark Firths death in Nov 1880 his wife Caroline lived there until her death in July 1894; property aquired at auction by William Samuel Laycock, son of W.E. Laycock of Stumperlowe Grange. Laycock died aged 73 in March 1916 and Oakbrook was used as a Military Hospital and Convalescent home for officers until the end of WWI. Mid 1919 became the Convent of Notre Dame. 1955 a Chapel was built close to the house. The Oakbrook (Notre Dame) High School was built in 1935.
