Born Burton on Trent, 1804. Studied medicine, but became a clergyman. Based at several different towns, including Sheffield. Heavily involved in the establishment of Wesley College, Sheffield. Served as Governor, 1844-1862. In 1859 he was elected President of the Wesleyan Conference. After 1862 he returned to being an itinerant preacher. He retired to Bristol, naming his house, Endcliffe Cottage in remembrance of his time in Sheffield. He died in 1876. One of his sons, Samuel Danks Waddy, served as MP for Barnstaple.
