Solicitor and member of the firm of Auty and Sons, Bank Street. Was agent at parliamentary elections for Sir E. Ashmead Bartlett M.P., Captain the Hon. Ronald Greville M.P., Mr. Frank Hatchard and Mr. S. Roberts M.P.

A citizen member of the Free Libraries and Museums of Sheffield City Council and also chairman of the committee of Upperthorpe Free Library. He unsuccessfully stood as a candidate for the Attercliffe Ward. He had a commission in the Hallamshire Rifles Volunteers.

Resided at No. 41 Kenbourne Road
