Edward Snelgrove was one-time headteacher at Crookesmoor Council School.  It is believed he also taught at Heeley Bank Boys School c. 1886. He later became a Councillor for Sheffield City Council (serving as Deputy Chairman of the Education Committee). He stood (unsuccessfully) as the Labour candidate in the Hallam constituency at the general election of 1924.
